Irish Kayaker Dies Tragically on Norway Trip
A 25 year old Irish kayaker has died following a tragic incident on a kayaking trip in Norway, the Department of Foreign Affairs has confirmed.
The incident occurred Monday (August 6th 2012) on the Sjoa river in the centrally located Oppland County, near the town of Vågå. It is believed that a group of 5 Irish kayakers were attempting to negotiate a more than six metre drop at Ridderspranget Ravine when the 25 year old got into difficulties after being the first of the group to attempt the drop.
His body was recovered from the water by another group of kayakers.
The man’s parents and family have been informed and the Department of Foreign Affairs are providing them with consular assistance.
